Values in Action Award Nomination Form

The Values in Action Awards (VIAA) recognize faculty or staff members, students, or community-based teaching faculty members who, as nominated by their peers, best exemplify the values of the UCR School of Medicine – inclusion, integrity, innovation, excellence, accountability and respect.

The VIAA is presented quarterly. One individual will receive a $50 award, $250 in professional development funds and a lapel pin in recognition of their actions during that three month period. (Subject to final approval.)

Award Criteria

Nominees should demonstrate excellence in one or more of the following values. Strong nominees may exhibit several of the values.

  • Inclusion – Embracing diversity in the broadest sense and appreciating all points of view
  • Integrity – Exhibiting honesty and the highest ethical standards in all matters
  • Innovation – Pursuing organizational goals with creativity and novelty
  • Excellence – Demonstrating extraordinary dedication to the highest quality outcomes
  • Accountability – Taking responsibility and ownership
  • Respect – Showing consideration and appreciation for others

Recipients will be evaluated by the committee based on the information expressed in this nomination form.

Nominees will be considered for their actions during the most recent three-month period. 


Program Eligibility

All employees, students, and community-based teaching faculty may nominate an outstanding colleague who exemplifies one or more of the six values of the UCR School of Medicine.

Employees in the following appointments are eligible to be nominated:

  • Academic employees: faculty, postdoctoral scholars, specialists, scientists, resident physicians.
  • Employees in staff and student appointments.
  • Medical and Ph.D. students.
  • Community-based teaching faculty.

Nomination Deadlines

Nomination periods for the quarterly awards are:

  • Summer: July 1 – September 30
  • Fall: October 1 – December 31
  • Winter: January 1 – March 31
  • Spring: April 1 – June 30

Award Committee

The award committee, appointed by the dean, will be made up of representatives from faculty, students, staff, and leadership. Members of the committee will meet quarterly to review all nominations and submit a recommendation to the dean for final selection.
